6-25 Police: crime news

EDMOND — Guthrie woman dies from crash injuries

A 28-year-old Guthrie woman has died from injuries suffered in an alcohol-related crash in Grady County, troopers said.

On the afternoon of June 18 a 1988 Ford Ranger pickup being driven by James Thomas, 35, of Guthrie, was traveling southbound on county street 2950 and ran off the roadway to the left, troopers said. The driver over-corrected, causing the vehicle to run off the roadway to the right and roll one complete time, troopers said. Both the driver and the lone passenger were ejected for an unknown distance.

Thomas and passenger Debra Diede, 28, of Guthrie, were transported by helicopter to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City. Thomas was admitted in serious condition with head, leg, arm and internal injuries, troopers said.

Diede was admitted in serious condition with head, leg, arm and internal injuries, troopers said. Early Thursday morning she died due to complications from injuries suffered in the crash, troopers said.

Alcohol impaired the ability of the driver, and the cause of the crash was determined to be alcohol DUI, troopers said in the incident report. The pickup was equipped with seat belts, which were not in use. It was not equipped with airbags. Weather was clear and the crash occurred on a dry, two-lane undivided asphalt road.
