Stupid Criminals: Teen Queen Edition Featuring Lindsey Evans

By Tatiana Guertin on If only Miss Louisiana Teen USA Lindsey Evans would have paid her $46.07 dinner tab she would still have her crown. But, proving that beauty queens are a little lacking in the brain department, Evans not only skipped out on her tab, but left her purse full of pot at the restaurant.

Rule #1 of the dine-and-dash: You should definitely remember to take your purse or wallet with you.

When Evans returned to the restaurant to grab her purse she was arrested on theft and charges of marijuana possession after police searched her bag and found a stash of pot.

Rule #1 of carrying pot on you: Don't commit a crime, if you do don't leave your pot behind with your personal information.

Come on! Is a little common sense too much to ask for in a beauty queen?

With only 10 days left on her reign Evans was stripped of her title. You can't say she didn't deserve it.

Stupid Criminals: 'We've Got Boobies!'

By JJ Duncan on That's how Federal Security Guard Darin Earl Wanless cheerfully announced the fruition of his master plan to his coworkers.

That plan? To capture women undressing using the security cameras placed on top of the U.S. Courthouse complex in downtown Spokane, Washington.

If that sounds like a plot point from "Revenge of the Nerds" that's because it is (skip to 0:58 ).

Wanless reportedly succeeded in his quest for 'boobies' 22 times, according to court documents. But while the Nerds got away Scot free, Wanless will have to register as a sex offender for the next 10 years.

Yeesh. Real life sucks. (More at the Spokesman-Review )

Stupid Criminals: 911 Doesn't Care About Your Sandwich

By JJ Duncan on I've been to Subway enough times to know that if I want an edible sandwich, I have to make it VERY clear that I only want the tiniest bit of mayonaisse on my Cold Cut Trio.

Nothing is worse than biting into a footlong and feeling it coat your chin and shirt in that slimy discount mayo they smother all over a perfectly good sammich. I've complained. Once I even got a coupon for a free sandwich. But it never occurred to me that there might be a higher authority to whom I could voice my complaints.

I must not be nearly as clever as Reginald Peterson, the 42-year-old Florida man who became so angry with Subway's Sandwich Artists that he did take his complaints to a higher authority.

He dialed 911.

Then he dialed again when police didn't show up fast enough.

Then he got arrested for placing false 911 calls.

Peterson was not willing to compromise. His sandwich needed a police escort to be made correctly and he wasn't leaving until that's exactly what happened... or until police handcuffed him and threw him in a squad car.

Oh well, maybe the sous chefs down at County will be more attentive to the way old Reggie likes his sandwich made.

Stupid Criminals: Copper Thief 'Never Been in a Jam Like This'

By JJ Duncan on Talk about being stuck between a dumpster and a hard place.

Gibson Cook, 56, found himself in a precarious situation when he went scavenging for scrap metal in a DIllon County, S.C. landfill. And the local Sheriff's deputies were kind enough to take embarrassing pictures.

You know what happens when you stick your hand too far in the Pringles can? That's kind of how it went down with Gibson.

He crawled and he reached and crawled and reached and when he finally grabbed that mess of copper wiring in his grimy little mitt he realized he'd gone too far. So he took the only option left to him: he screamed like a little girl until someone lifted that thing off him. At least that's how I like to imagine it happened.

""He's one of our local petty thieves," deputy Wayne Kirby said. "But he has never been in a jam like this."

Looking at Gibson's picture following the harrowing incident, he doesn't seem that fazed. At least he didn't pee his pants, which is more than you could probably say for yourself were you to be pinned beneath a two-ton metal dumpster.

Stupid Criminals: Man Arrested For Impromptu Demolition Derby

By JJ Duncan on Maybe he thought they were all out to get him. Maybe he just had a bad day.

Whatever the reason, Fort Worth man Michael John Holden decided it was time to play demolition derby with his white Toyota Tundra pickup truck and no one else was privy to the information.

Late evening Wednesday, Holden allegedly began ramming his pickup straight into a number of cars in a parking lot. Then he drove to another parking lot and did it again.

Instead of fleeing the scene, Holden sauntered into a nearby bar, the Star Light Sports Lounge, where police soon nabbed the allegedly intoxicated Holden. He'd been followed by a witness who told police right where he could be found.

Witnesses do tend to notice when you go on a rampage and smash up 17 vehicles at an estimated cost of $75,000.

Stupid Criminals: Kill the Lawnmower! KILL IT! KILL IT!

By JJ Duncan on Consider the plight of Keith Walendowski.

Just like anyone would, when his lawnmower began to act up he assumed the time had come. Call it the Apocalypse. Call it the Rise of the Machines. Call it running out of gas. Whatever it was, Keith was ready for it.

He pulled out his illegally-short-barrelled shotgun and blew that motherfucker to Kingdom Come.

"I can do that, it's my lawn mower and my yard so I can shoot it if I want."

Unfortunately for him, the cops didn't agree. (More at CJOnline.com )

Thanks for the mugshot Keith! *muah*

Crossdressers Can Be Stupid Criminals Too

By Tatiana Guertin on Peter Abramczyk poses for his mug shot at a Concord, N.H. police department. (Image Source The Smoking Gun)

Apparently 39-year-old Peter Abramczyk of Connecticut wasn't aware that putting adds that solicit sex on Craigslist is not OK with the police.

Abramczyk was caught after an ad he placed on Craigslist for the availability of a "passable crossdresser" was found by police, who answered the ad, using an undercover police officer.

He agreed to meet the officer to exchange in a sex act for money.

The most embarrassing part of this whole thing is probably that, for the rest of his life, Abramczyk is going to be known as that guy wearing makeup in his mug shot.

Still, he kind of deserves it, soliciting prostitution, which is illegal in most states, on Craigslist, is not the smartest idea. If you're curious, TheSmokingGun.com has a copy of the Craigslist ad.

Dumb Criminals Ink

Sunday, April 8th, 2012 • Filed under Other

Something we haven’t seen in a while: tattoos. Actually, we see them every day….the I-was-drunk-and-in-college skulls, the we-were-in-love-forever-until-he-cheated hearts, the Asian-is-totes-a-cool-language Chinese symbols, and the imprint-motherhood-onto-my-body-even-more pictures of kids’ faces. So what I really mean is that they haven’t been on here for a while.

Three young men were walking their dogs on a fine Idaho afternoon when a police officer suggested they move to a sidewalk. Harmless, right? One of the dog-walkers looked as though he might run away, so the officer became suspicious and asked for identification. As it says here on HP, the man gave his name and birthday, which didn’t show up later in the police database. Turns out he had given the officer a fake last name, an accusation that was confirmed by the tattoo of his actual name on his forehead. Apparently these things are easy to forget…

Why Do Criminals Commit Crime?

In the context of sociology, human beings are born with criminal instinct and in this world that is enveloped with trickery and malice; the commission of crimes is very probable. Everybody in this world is logically classified as felon because of our sinful behavior that freely flows in our veins. But we have the power to control this manner in accordance to the norms and practices of the society.

In the other side of the big picture, there is really no lawbreaker in our society. Criminals were only born because of the norms we follow and the various laws that have been implemented by the people. If there is no law or set of standards that prohibit a certain acts then there is no violator.

But we don't want to look the world in chaos where only the rich and the brave will be the one in control. That is why our laws have been created in order to limit the individual desire beyond what is acceptable. In this instance, once a person's wants is blocked, that craving will find its way to get it fulfilled.

Now let us take a look at the famous triangle of crime; possible offender plus desire plus opportunity is equal to crime. Take one of the ingredients out in the triangle and crime will no longer exist. That is easy and simple to stop crime theoretically but in reality we cannot stop it but we can prevent the occurrence of a felony.

Why we cannot stop crime? It's because we have no control on the individual's brain the way it thinks. We already know that desire is one of the major elements in the crime triangle and it is the one that drives a person to do a wrongful act.

Why do criminals commit crime? It is because the offender wants to satisfy their craving for a certain thing. Another top reason why criminal commits a crime it's because the "opportunity" to commit evildoing "exists".

The best thing to do is don't give a felon the opportunity to commit a misdemeanor. Harden the target and make it for a possible offender having a hard time to perform an offense. Prevent a person from committing a crime by not giving him even a little chance.

It's just as easy as not wearing your bracelets ostentatiously in the areas frequented by thieves so that they will have no opportunity to rob your jewelry, or just as easy as putting fences and good lights in the surroundings of your residences so that would-be robbers could not find any entrance to break in going inside your houses.

It's just related to the famous saying "crime prevention is everybody's concern."

Heat slows most criminals, but does breed special brand of crime

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Here's a bit of good news about the heat - looks like the blazing sun might be bothering criminals as much as it is you.

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department says the past few days have been quiet when it comes to dangerous crime...think muggings, car jacking's, etc.

But the high temps - well, they do breed their own brand of trouble.

Over at Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Charlotte, someone ripped two air conditioning units right out of the ground. We're talking boxes so big it would take more than one person to carry them off, and the damage to this volunteer mentoring organization top $1,200.

Police say cars also become big targets when it's warm out, because drivers tend to leave their windows cracked.

"Just leaving the car window cracked two inches or so to keep your car cooled...you're just inviting someone with a coat hanger to stick their arm in and steal CDs, change," says CMPD Officer Bob Fey. "You'd be surprised at what people will be willing to steal."

Marty Garges, director of the Tyvola Senior Center, says heat-related crime actually becomes a big problem for the elderly, because fear of it keeps them from opening their windows for a breeze or even an air conditioning unit.

It's one reason senior centers are handing out free fans today.

"You hear of people dying in cities because they're afraid of opening their homes up for the air," says Garges. "And at least the fans will keep the air circulating."

Your Mindset As the Criminal's Ally - Crime Prevention Tips to Stop the Traitor Within

Crime can happen to anyone, right? Not necessarily. While we agree with criminology experts when they say that nobody is exempt from becoming a victim of crime, it is also true that your mindset can actually increase or decrease your chances of actually becoming the target of someone's evil intentions, a conclusion derived from psychological models that deal with the information processing of the mind.

No, we're not talking about wishful thinking here. We don't believe that constantly repeating to yourself: "I am safe, nothing will ever happen to me or my family" will actually have any significant effect.

However, cognitive-behavioral psychologists such as Dr. Albert Ellis and Dr. Aaron Beck have demonstrated in numerous ways that thoughts can actually determine what your behaviors and emotions will be in any given situation. That would explain why everybody reacts differently to the same stimulus: thoughts have the power to make all the difference.

If we extend those conclusions to the field of crime prevention, the logical implication would be that -although your chances of becoming a crime victim cannot be completely eliminated- your repertoire of thoughts can actually put you in a higher or lower risk position in relation to crime. Yes, your mind can act as an internal traitor. And because of that, the first and most basic strategy in any self defense plan should be creating low-risk, crime-smart thoughts...an advice that you and your loved ones should follow in order to stay safe.

Many people (maybe you included) think that they are already crime-conscious enough, so they don't see any need to make further thought modifications. However...When was the last time you saw someone walking slowly and carelessly towards his/her car, talking happily on the cell phone, taking his/her time to take the car keys out of his/her pocket (or purse), completely oblivious of his/her surroundings? Crime conscious...uh? Some people make easy targets out of themselves. But...What actually led that person to act that way?

Taking the cognitive-behavioral model into account, it may be hypothesized that the predominant responsible factor would be a distorted information processing style. In other words, maybe he/she is interpreting that the immediate environment is safer than it might actually be. Psychologically, the "internal traitor" might have taken the form of what experts call "emotional reasoning": a conclusion or inference based on an emotional state. For instance: "I feel safe". However, feeling safe (by itself) is not the same as actually being safe. The "I feel safe" distortion is what led our friend in the aforementioned example to act so carelessly in the first place, and might even be the initial factor in a series of events that led him/her to become a victim of crime. Get the picture?

A variation of the "I feel safe" distortion can be found in cases in which a more crime-conscious individual buys a non lethal weapon that is not as effective as the vendor claimed. The end result would be that the individual will feel "really safe" (with a low-powered stun gun or tear gas pepper spray, for instance), without actually being safe. That's why it is important to buy self defense products only from a retailer that offers only the most reliable devices: your life and well-being is at stake.

But what is the "antidote" to the "emotional reasoning" distortion? The first step is to recognize that you don't have to believe every thought that passes through your mind. You can -and must- be skeptical of your own cognitions. While we are not recommending that you invite paranoia into your mind, an acceptable remedy would be replacing your "I feel safe" thoughts with more realistic and pragmatic mind schemas, such as: "Nobody is 100% safe all the time, but I can decrease the chances of becoming a crime victim by always being aware of my surroundings, staying away from potentially dangerous circumstances, and carrying a reliable self defense product that can actually help me if the need arises (such as a TASER, a high-powered stun gun, or a OC pepper spray)". It can be hypothesized that many crime victims would not be so today, had they practiced an exact or similar way of thinking.

The next step would be to practice your new way of thinking as often as possible, specially every time your old pattern of thought emerges. The result should be a more prudent approach to safety, more controlled emotions (which stems from really being more in control of your circumstances) and a decreased chance of actually becoming a victim.

However, the "emotional reasoning" cognition is not the only form the internal traitor might take. Another common distortion is what psychologists call "overgeneralizations": the tendency to draw evidence from one experience or a small set of experiences to reach an unwarranted conclusion with far-reaching implications. For instance: "I've gone to the ATM machine at night quite a few times by now, and nothing has ever happened so far, so don't worry, I will be safe". But just because it hasn't happened so far doesn't really mean that it can't happen sometime, so lowering your defenses is not an appropriate course of action. Remember what criminologists say: Crime can happen to anyone, without exceptions. Decrease your chances of becoming a victim by getting rid of this harmful way of thinking, as soon as possible.

Still a third cognitive distortion can be found in "cognitive avoidance": unpleasant thoughts, feelings or events are actively suppressed or avoided, specially because they are erroneously perceived as overwhelming. That's precisely the reason that enforces the first two cognitive distortions: People fall victims of crime either because they do not wish to consider the possibility of that actually happening or because they minimize or just plainly ignore the fact that nobody is exempt. That's why they don't think, act or get properly protected in the first place, which increases their chances of becoming victims. Don't let that be your case.

Although there are other forms the internal traitor might take, those discussed so far are the ones that we consider to be the most important. These distortions can completely disable your potential of avoiding and/or defending yourself against crime successfully...should potential tragedy comes knocking on your door.

Avoid the aforementioned mental distortions, arm yourself with a first-rate self defense product, and decrease your chances of becoming a victim. To quote Charles Reade (a 19th century novelist): "Sow a thought, and you reap an act; Sow an act, and you reap a habit; Sow a habit, and you reap a character; Sow a character, and you reap a destiny".

In closing, sow crime smart thoughts and actions, and reap an increased chance of a crime-free life today for you and your loved ones. Start today. You won't regret you did.
