Jeweller helps bust crime ring

Police say a group of travelling thieves who targeted high-end jewelry across Canada was nabbed Saturday morning in Brandon.

Staff at a downtown Brandon jeweller called police just before 11 a.m. on Saturday, to report two suspicious women in their store. The women matched descriptions that had been sent out in warning bulletins from the Retail Jeweler's Association.

When the women left the store, they were stopped by police at a bank across the street.

Investigation revealed that the suspects were allegedly responsible for thefts in Saskatchewan and Alberta, including the communities of Medicine Hat, Weyburn, Swift Current and North Battleford.

The two women were arrested and wil be sent to North Battleford, Sask., to face outstanding warrants there.

Those arrested were a 34-year-old woman and a 25-year-old woman, both from Kitchener, Ont.
