NOGALES, Ariz. -- The taller border fence in downtown Nogales appears to be making things tougher for illegal immigrants.
Nogales police say several recent crossing attempts have ended in injuries, including a least two broken legs resulting from falls.
A four-month, $11.6 million project replaced the old 10-foot-tall fence with an improved barrier that ranges from 23 to 30 feet in height topped by 5-feet of metal sheeting designed to discourage climbers.
The Border Patrol insists it holds no responsibility for people who get hurt climbing the fence.
