(Newser) – Not that unusual: Cops show up to bust a teen party involving booze, and find someone hiding in a bedroom. Unusual: That person is the home's 56-year-old owner, and mother to the 18-year-old who threw the bash. Police say they arrived at the home in Naples, Fla., just after midnight yesterday, to find beer cans, bottles, and pot in the yard; as they approached, the partiers went inside and shut lights off, reports ABC7. Mariel Weinand, 18, answered the knock on the door—with the assistance of the two girls who were keeping her upright, say police—and passed along her mom's cell phone number. Police rang Carolyn Weinand, who said she was unaware of the party and out of town. She also gave them the OK to break up the party, which they moved inside to do. And that's when they say they found people hiding in a number of rooms and closets—and Carolyn Weinand hiding in a bedroom. She then changed her tune: The Naples Daily News reports that Weinand kept making "statements trying to justify having the party and allowing alcohol," per police, among them that she thought they'd be safe if they didn't have to drive. She says she didn't buy the booze, but she's charged with 26 counts of selling, giving, or serving alcoholic beverages to persons under the age of 21 all the same. Both mother and daughter were hit with one count of having an open house party. (Weinand certainly isn't the first parent to get caught at a teen party.)

Macabre Clue Leads Police to Suspected Thief
(Newser) – This month's entry in the annals of truly stupid criminals: Police in Arizona say they found a would-be thief thanks to the suspect's own severed finger, the Arizona Republic reports. Joshua Allen Goverman, 29, allegedly tried to steal copper wiring (value: $300) from an air conditioning truck Oct. 7 but apparently lost his finger in the process. He then, for some reason, left the finger behind. In the morning, the victim went to his truck and "got quite a surprise," a police news release says. "A cut-off finger that was caught up in the wiring." The grossest quote we've heard in a while, from a Glendale cop: "They took a Popsicle stick and were able to attach it to that finger, and they were able to roll that finger and get a print on that finger." That led them to Goverman, who was indeed missing a finger. This being 2013, they also reviewed his Facebook account, and found an image the criminal genius had posted prior to his arrest "of his hand with the missing portion of his finger." He gave detectives the same story he'd posted on Facebook: that the finger was severed while he was fixing a car. But he apparently 'fessed up after police actually showed him the finger and ended up getting booked on theft charges. "I can't believe he didn't come back and get the finger," the truck's driver marvels to KPHO. "I would've come back and got the finger."

Cops: Drug Dealer Accidentally Texts Police
(Newser) – A detective in New Jersey's Andover Township got a strange text on his new cell phone: Hey, it asked, want to buy a quarter-pound of pot? Well, sure, replied the detective, who then set up a rendezvous. The would-be seller smelled a rat upon arrival and fled, but police soon confiscated four bags of marijuana from his vehicle, reports NJ.com. Nicholas Delear (yep, his real last name), 33, now faces a slew of drug charges in what might be the easiest bust of the year.

What to Report to the Police in the Event of a Violent Crime
With the crime rate in every major city in the United States on the rise, not only do we need to be physically ready, we also need to be mentally prepared in case we come face to face with a criminal. Violent crimes such as, rape, sexual assault, aggravated assault, armed robbery, home invasion and carjacking are all on the rise, at alarming rate. Though, we all hope and pray not to be victims of any of these violent crimes, nonetheless, we need to know how to gather information about the crime and the perpetrator in case we become victims.
Naturally, most of us scream, cry or freeze in a crisis situation, but we need to be very observant in these situations. Because, being able to gather vital information about the criminal and the crime will help you and the police apprehend the perpetrator. One of the most important keys to solving a crime is being able to know what to report to the police in the event of a violent crime.
Therefore, if you are being attacked or you witness someone being attacked violently, pay close attention to the physical appearance of the attacker. One of the first things you need to determine is the race of the perpetrator. Are they white, black or Hispanic? Observe physical features like the height and built. How tall are they? Are they small, medium or large framed? Focus on their face, the shape and color of the eyes, the color of the hair, the shape of the nose and the mouth and a good estimate of the shoe size. In addition, make a mental note of their clothing, were they wearing a T-shirt, a dress shirt or hooded sweater. What kind of pants were they wearing. Are they jeans, dress pants or sweat pants? Also, make sure you can accurately describe the shoes. Were they sneakers, boots or dress shoes? And if they were wearing a hat what type is it. Is it a baseball cap, skull cap or a fedora? Now, if they fled the scene in a car, determine the make and model, the color and if possible the tag number.
In conclusion, since most of these criminals already have lengthy criminal history, it is very important to make some of these observations in the event of a violent crime. Because these observations can help you identify the perpetrator in a police mug shot file or line-up. They can also help you take criminal off the streets and put then behind bars, where they belong.

OKC Police Search For Prostitute Accused Of Murder

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Oklahoma City police have issued an arrest warrant for first-degree murder for a woman accused of stabbing a man to death.
Someone called paramedics and police Sunday, June 12, to 5800 N.W. 34th Street. When the ambulance and officers arrived, they found 25-year-old Osmani Chicas-Melgar. Chicas-Melgar had been stabbed in the torso and died from the wound.
According to Chicas-Melgar's roommate, 28-year-old Amanda Christina Hunter was with him most of the night. Police say Hunter is a known prostitute and was likely having sex with Chicas-Melgar in exchange for drugs.

Police Search For Gunman In Southeast OKC Shooting

OKLAHOMA CITY -- A man is shot and left to die in a drainage ditch. Now, Oklahoma City police are trying to find the gunman.
Officers say the victim was found in the 800 block of S.E. 15th Street. He was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.
